No Eating Out For a Week

February 7th, 2008 at 06:31 pm

I'm almost there.

Last time I ate out was last Sunday, when I grabbed a couple of cheeseburgers on my way home for lunch. I've been doing a lot better about not eating out so much, and when I do, I try to keep it cheap. I haven't stepped foot in a sit down restaurant in weeks.

So this week, my goal was to not eat out at all. I did cheat and get a coffee earlier in the week, but I've convinced myself that it's not a meal. =)

Anyways, we're into Thursday, and I just finished my lunch of leg of lamb and seasoned rice. IN MY OFFICE. I ain't goin anywhere. Dinner is taken care of tonight, as well as tomorrow night, and I have a pre-packaged lunch box of alfredo pasta sitting in my fridge for lunch tomorrow. Saturday will require some creativity, but I've been looking at recipes and am pretty excited about trying some of them.

I wonder what I can cut down on next week.

Good for you! I'm one that loves eating out also, but like you I'm making a conscious effort not to. I have not been to a sit down restaurant all of 2008, and have gotten take out only once a week. (Used to be take out 3x, eat out 5x/week, out of the 21 weekly meals). It has amazed me how much $$ I have been able to divert from this budget account into my "challenge" (I'm trying to "snowflake" my way into paying more on my HELOC). Continued success!

It helps if you like to cook, as I do.

Got a slow cooker? Makes great stew, soup, chili, and BBQ chicken while you're at work!

Huge sucker for coffee! It is really hard for me to pass up on getting 1 coffee a day. I try to make it at home and bring it to work with me but it never tastes as good as the stuff I get elsewhere. I could be saving $1.24 a day if I stopped buying it.

You are doing such a good job cutting down on eating out. It gets easier.
I have been with Savingadvice for a little over a year and my habits have definitely changed over that year. While I wasn't "really bad" about spending money on food away from home, I have gotten a lot better.
Keep it up, you will be pleased with yourself.

Next week? Don't know if you drive, but if so, then how about trying to cut down on errands or just running out for 'something' you forgot? Try grouping errands or looking around at home or borrowing from immediate neighbors, etc.

Great going on the eating out portion of your financial lifestyle upgrade!!
